Xbox at E3 2015: Tomb Raider, Forza 6, new Rare title, and more

Microsoft had a busy Xbox press briefing, with gameplay reveals for Halo 5: Guardians and Gears of War 4, plus news of Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Xbox 360 backwards compatibility on Xbox One, a new premium controller and an Xbox One early access program. Here’s some of the other news coming out of the press conference:

Recore from Keiji Inafune

One of the surprise reveals was Recore by Keiji Inafune. A CG trailer was shown, featuring a girl and her robotic pet, but gave no hints about the game’s story, gameplay or genre. What was announced, however, was that Recore is a first-party exclusive franchise, with a spring 2016 release planned.

Forza Motorsport 6

Forza 6 also got its proper reveal at the Xbox show, with a trailer giving more details on the racing sim. The game will feature 26 different locations, with 24-player multiplayer and 1080p 60 fps visuals. Forza 6 is scheduled for release on 15th September exclusively on Xbox One.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Crystal Dynamics gave us a first look at Rise of the Tomb Raider gameplay, featuring some tense moments and action-packed set pieces as Lara Croft scaled an icey cliff. The end of the demo also showed various other environments and gameplay details, ending with the release date of 10th November (the same day as Fallout 4) exclusively on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Rare’s Sea of Thieves

Rare is finally back! The studio revealed its Xbox One exclusive game, Sea of Thieves, a shared-world adventure game with a pirate theme. The demo for the first-person game featured some exploration as well as some on-ship gameplay, including broadside ship combat. No release date or window was revealed, but while you wait, you can pick up Rare Replay, a collection of 30 classic Rare games.

ID@Xbox

A segment of the show was also dedicated to the indie games coming to Xbox One, including Tacoma from Gone Home creator Fullbright; action RPG, Ashen; and run-and-gun platformer, Cuphead.
