Steam goes beyond gaming

Steam, Valve’s insanely popular digital distribution platform, is now going beyond gaming, offering customers software titles as well. This initiative will kick off on 5th September and all the software offered via Steam will enjoy the same perks as its gaming counterparts, namely easy installation, Steamworks features, cloud saves and auto-updates.

Valve hasn’t divulged any names yet, but they claim the software coming to Steam ranges includes creativity to productivity applications.

“The 40 million gamers frequenting Steam are interested in more than playing games,” said Mark Richardson at Valve. “They have told us they would like to have more of their software on Steam, so this expansion is in response to those customer requests.”
