Sony joins EA in increasing game prices in India

Correction: The new price for Twisted Metal was initially reported as Rs 2,999, which is in correct. The list has now been updated with the correct price – Rs 2,299.

After EA increased its game prices a lot and then dropped them a little, Sony is now increasing the prices of some of its older titles.

Some of Sony’s Platinum titles are now priced at Rs 1,799, a Rs 100 increase. The Uncharted Trilogy Edition now goes up from Rs 2,999 to Rs 3,299, while Twisted Metal is up from Rs 2,199 to Rs 2,299.

On the Vita, the only game to witness an increase is Uncharted: Golden Abyss, up from Rs 2,799 to Rs 2,999.

Here’s a list of Sony’s games to receive price increases (older prices in brackets):

Meanwhile, EA has revised prices for some of its older PS3 and PC titles, but it’s not all bad. While some games have been priced higher, others have seen significant price drops.

Most notably, Medal of Honor, Grand Slam Tennis 2 and Need for Speed: The Run on PS3 are now around 40 per cent cheaper than their launch prices of Rs 2,999. Here’s the EA list of price increases and drops.

Prices down:

Sony recently announced that it will soon be locally manufacturing first-party PS3 games in India, which would allow the platform owner to maintain the Rs 2,499 price point for AAA releases.

A change in import and excise duty structure seems to be the primary reason for these prices increases, and the weak Rupee hasn’t helped matters either. So we wouldn’t be surprised at all if other publishers follow suit.
