Sources have told Kotaku that Sony’s first party studio Zipper Interactive is “in the process of being shut down”. The site claims that there have been rumours flying around about layoffs and project cancellations, indicating a studio closure. Sony, however, has declined to comment on the rumour.

Zipper was founded in 1995 with their first game, DeathDrome on PC. They worked on Mechwarrior 3 and Crimson Skies before shifting focus to the SOCOM series and being finally bought by Sony in 2006.
Their success on the PS3 has been limited, with MAG failing to garner a lot of interest, and SOCOM 4 being released during the PS3’s infamous PSN outage. Their most recent release is Unit 13, a launch title for the Playstation Vita.
