Postcard from Venice: Assassin’s Creed 2 viral

I’ve never received a postcard before, and I never quite understood the concept of sending picture postcards. So imagine my surprise when I get home and find one waiting for me on my desk. A picturesque Venetian canal adorned the front, and there was no mention of the sender’s name on the back and no return address. An Italian postage stamp left me even more confused.

A closer look, however, reveals a window on one of the buildings in the shape of the Assassin’s Creed logo. So it seems I have cleverly traced the postcard back to Ubisoft. But I wasn’t done just yet. There’s also a small sign that reads “Buon Compleanno Da Vinci”, which in Italian means “Happy Birthday Da Vinci”. So this again confirms what we already know from the information and images that have surfaced – that Assassin’s Creed 2 will move forward in time to the 14th century and this time around, Italy, and perhaps other southern European locations will be your playground.

A nice viral marketing idea; let’s just hope the game actually justifies the hype the second time around. Assassin’s Creed 2 is scheduled for release in December 2009.
