Oculus Rift to launch early 2016, preorders later this year

It looks like we will have to wait it out till early 2016 for the Oculus Rift consumer version. The pre-orders for the device will be opening later in 2015.

With anticipations running high as well as some competition from Microsoft HoloLens, Valve’s Vive HMD and Sony’s Morpheus, 2016 seems to be the year when virtual reality head-mounted displays will be hot on many gamers’ minds.

Based on the Crescent Bay prototype, the consumer model of the Oculus Rift will feature an improved tracking system that works with both seated and standing experiences. Other improvements include updated ergonomics, so it could be less bulky than the developer kit versions.

A post on the official blog states, “In the weeks ahead, we’ll be revealing the details around hardware, software, input, and many of our unannounced made-for-VR games and experiences coming to the Rift. Next week, we’ll share more of the technical specifications here on the Oculus blog.”

No pricing details were shared but more details should be posted on the Oculus blog soon.
