New PS3 update coming this week to fix firmware v4.45 issues

Sony will be rolling out a new firmware update June 27,2013 to fix the problem caused by update v4.45 that was released last week.

Ps3 firmware Update v4.45 was released by Sony in order to add trophy notification and improve system stability. However, it ended up causing many consoles to get ‘bricked’, and Sony eventually took that update down.

A post on PlayStation forums stated, “We have identified the issue related to the PlayStation 3 software update (version 4.45) that impacted a small number of PS3 systems earlier this week. A new PS3 system software update is planned to be released on June 27 that resolves the issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Further updates and instructions on how to fix the affected consoles will be announced soon. Visit the PlayStation forums for more updates.

Update: Sony  has released a new PS 3 firmware update, version 4.46. For those who were affected by the bug, Sony has detailed a three step process for restoring the console. The full process is given on the PlayStation Knowledge Center at Sony’s support website.
