Mirror’s Edge Catalyst: New game finally gets a name that makes sense

I recently went on a bit of a rant about how absurd it was that EA was sticking to the ‘Mirror’s Edge’ name for its follow-up to the 2008 title of the same name. Thankfully that won’t be the case.

A few days ago, EA filed a trademark for ‘Mirror’s Edge Catalyst’ and now it’s been confirmed that this indeed is the name of the new game, which was first revealed at E3 2013.

“By this time next week, you will have finally seen more of the game at E3,” senior producer Sara Jansson said in a post on the game’s official website, which now features the new name.

“This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror’s Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players,” Jansson added.

If you’re wondering, ‘Why Catalyst?’, the below image, which was tweeted from the game’s official Twitter account, may help. Or maybe not.

I hope that by “more of the game” she means a live stage demo of Catalyst in action. Anything else would frankly be a letdown, especially with the game’s unsubstantial behind-the-scenes showing at last year’s E3, and especially since EA has stated that the game is planned for release before April 2016.

All eyes on E3, then.
