Hacker group Lulzsec announces retirement

After going on a rampage for the past 50 days, hacker group Lulzsec has announced its retirement. Lulzsec’s hacking frenzy claimed many high-profile gaming industry victims. These include Sony, Nintendo,  Codemasters, Minecraft, Epic, Bethesda, Square Enix, Eve Online, League of Legends and The Escapist. The group said in a statement, “For the past 50 days we’ve been disrupting and exposing corporations, governments, often the general population itself, and quite possibly everything in between, just because we could.”

The group, however, retreats with a sting, requesting all of its followers to join the infamous Anonymous hacking group. The surprising announcement may have prompted by the arrest of a UK-based hacker said to be affiliated with group. While the gaming industry can afford to breathe a little easy now, it still remains to be seen whether other hacker groups choose to follow the path of Lulzsec.
