It has been officially announced the Gran Turismo 5 Functionality Update 2.0 aka GT5 spec 2.0 will be available for download, free of cost, on October 11, 2011; the same date as Forza Motorsport 4’s release. Coincidence? The long overdue update will roll out with an array of irresistible features for GT fans. The one that is most welcome is the addition of basic cockpit view for standard cars, as promised earlier by Kazunori Yamauchi, the series’ creator. But he did mention that the level of detail for the cockpit view will vary from car to car; a worry, but still, better than nothing at all. Another welcome update is the ability to save progress during endurance races, and resume from the save point whenever the player feels like it.
Here’s the full list of updates that will be featured in the update:
- Photo Travel Mode updates (includes addition of NASCAR pit scene stage).
- User controllable weather changes.
- New setting sheet to save multiple car settings.
- Ability to save progress during endurance races.
- Shortening of load times and improved menu response.
- Addition of basic cockpit view for standard cars.
- Improved car physics simulation, further evolved A.I.
- Improved and enhanced user interface.
- Support for the Logitech G25/G27 steering wheels.
- New features in the Online Lounge (includes specific car type filters).
- Spec 2.0 opening movie.
- Replay fast forward/rewind.
- Addition of 2011 NASCAR car models and Nissan GT-R N24 Shulze Motor Sport.
- Expansion of B-spec remote race from GT.com (race rankings updated on graph).
There is also other Gran Turismo 5 DLC in the works. “For the DLC, we’re preparing a racing car pack, a course pack, and a racing gear pack. I’ll let you know more about that soon,” said Yamauchi. Festivities for racing fans begin early on October 11.
