Epic Games’ highly anticipated Gears of War 3 will feature stereoscopic 3D, should you choose to play it that way. While it’s Sony that has been actively pushing 3D in games, the Xbox 360 supports it too, and before Gears of War 3, Crysis 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops have supported 3D.
The Xbox 360 doesn’t output 3D in the same way the PS3 does, but instead it renders using 3D techniques based on the principle of two images crammed into a 720p framebuffer. This is how the 3D effect works in Gears of War 3, and so, according to executive producer Rod Fergusson, the feature forces the game to run at a lower resolution and “a little big jaggier in certain areas”.
Gears of War 3 is scheduled for release on September 20th, 2011 exclusively for Xbox 360, and the standard and collector’s editions of the game will be available in India.
