There were a lot of rumours floating around, which stated that EA might acquire Popcap for $1 billion. Well, those rumors have come true, and EA has acquired them for $750 million.
Due to this deal, EA now owns Bejewelled, Plants vs. Zombies and the Peggle IP. “PopCap’s great studio talent and powerful IP add to EA’s momentum and accelerate our drive towards a $1 billion digital business,” said EA CEO, John Riccitello. EA has made a lot of strides in the mobile and social space with recent acquisitions like, Playfish and Chillingo.
