E3 2014: EA press conference round-up and trailers

EA’s E3 2014 press conference was surprising. And no, not in a good way.

There was Mass Effect, Mirror’s Edge and Star Wars: Battlefront, but not in a way anyone would have liked. You see, whatever was showcased of these three franchises was early concept, with no actual gameplay or release date information.

‘Early concept’ is also phrase that found its way into describing Criterion’s announcement. Sure, the fine folk behind Burnout might be working on what could possibly be a gorgeous action-fuelled racing-crashing romp (video), but it’s too early to tell.

Aside from the obvious iterations to Madden, PGA Tour and NFL, FIFA 15 got its official reveal (trailer) and a release date of 26th September. It’s all about emotion this time around, it seems.

Oh, and there was Dawngate, a neat little MOBA that has aspirations of taking the fight to League of Legends and DOTA 2. The name is cool but the rest of it? Tough to say if it has the chops to pull it off.

There was a bit about the Sims 4 too. That’s out early September, but seems rather cerebral for most of EA’s Indian audience.

However, there was one silver lining and that was the Battlefield: Hardline (trailer) beta being available immediately at the end of the conference on the PS4 and PC, with the full game out on 21st October.

Given the footage we saw just prior to it, it could make for some solid multiplayer mayhem, but like most things at EA’s conference, it’s too early to tell.
