E-Xpress to bring Sega games to India

Over the past couple of months, we’ve been hearing from various quarters that Sega has been shopping for a distribution partner to bring its games to India. And after several no-comments on the topic in the past, E-Xpress Interactive has now confirmed that they have indeed partnered with the esteemed Japanese publisher to bring its games to India.

With the deal going through, we can now expect some of Sega’s most highly anticipated new and upcoming titles such as Valkyria Chronicles, Bayonetta, Sonic Unleashed and Football Manager 2009 to officially release in India. For those who missed out, slightly older titles such as Condemned 2, Virtua Tennis 3, Virtua Fighter 5, The Club and Sega Rally REVO, amongst others, will also be available here soon.

To add to that, E-Xpress will also bring in Sega’s back-catalogue titles at Rs 799 and below for the PlayStation 2 and PC, including Yakuza, Yakuza 2, Ironman, The Incredible Hulk, the Sonic series and many more. Pricing for the next-generation titles is yet to be decided, but we expect games to be priced close to Rs 2,500 for the PS3 versions, while Xbox 360 versions should be lower still.

With this deal, E-Xpress Interactive is now arguably the biggest game distributor in the country, with some of the biggest publishers in the world bringing their games to India through them. Sega joins an ever-growing list of E-Xpress’ partners, a list which already includes the likes of Ubisoft, Eidos, Konami, THQ, Codemasters and Take-Two. Sega was probably the last of the big publishers yet to bring their games to India, and with this deal, we in India should now be able to purchase all of our favourite games from local stores itself rather than relying on imports.
