UPDATE: Driveclub free PS Plus Edition includes India location, but there’s a catch

UPDATE: Sony has just issued an update on the situation, clarifying that those who upgrade to the full version from the Driveclub PS Plus Edition will not lose access to the game when their PlayStation Plus subscription expires, now making the PS Plus Edition are far more attractive option.

Original story:

Sony revealed details of Driveclub’s free PS Plus Edition yesterday, and it might get tricky for those who plan on upgrading from the PS Plus Edition to the full game.

The PS Plus Edition is best approached as a free demo and nothing more, because upgrading to the full game comes with its share of hassles.

The PS Plus Edition will include the India location, which includes five tracks and 11 variations, as well as 10 cars and access to all features and game modes from the full game. On its own, that’s quite a bit of content for something that’s being offered as a free demo.

However, it’s best approached as a free demo and nothing more, because upgrading from the PS Plus Edition to the full game comes with its share of hassles. For one, if you upgrade from the free edition, it’ll mean that the game will be locked to that PS Plus account and won’t be accessible to other accounts on the same PS4.

Secondly, even though you will have paid to upgrade to the full version, the game will become unavailable – even the single-player part – when your PS Plus subscription expires.

The PS Plus Edition upgrade will costs marginally less than buying Driveclub outright from the PlayStation Store, but the latter is a much better option since it doesn’t come with the limitations imposed on the PS Plus Edition upgrade. Or you could just avoid the digital hassle entirely and get the Blu Eay version.

Driveclub releases exclusively for PS4 on 8th October, and it’s one of many great racing games coming out this year.

Sony has released a new video that tries to explain the difference between the PS Plus Edition and the Blu Ray edition of Driveclub. Check it out.
