After Ubisoft’s decision to push back Watch Dogs to spring 2014, it’s now turn for PS4 exclusive Driveclub to get delayed.
Sony has announced that Evolution Studio’s socially connect racing game, which was originally supposed to be a launch title for the PS4, will now release in early 2014.
“We understand that the delay is disappointing news, but can assure you that the reason we have made this decision is to ensure that when Driveclub launches, it will realize the next-gen racing vision. And PlayStation 4 gamers will have no shortage of titles to play this year,” said Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida.
The Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition, which was a somewhat stripped down version of the game, was set to be released free to PS Plus subscribers as part of the Instant Game Collection at launch, but will also now only arrive alongside the game’s 2014 release.
The Driveclub delay is a significant blow for Sony, as Xbox and PlayStation consoles usually hit the market with an exclusive racing game in their launch line-ups. The Xbox One has Forza Motorsport 5, but the PS4 is now without an exclusive racing game at launch.
So over the course of one week, the PS4 launch line-up is now lighter by two promising games, both delayed because their publishers weren’t satisfied with their quality. Not a promising sign at all.
