DICE showed off its next-generation Frostbite 3 game engine when it unveiled Battlefield 4 yesterday, and today it’s been revealed that Bioware will be using the new engine to power Dragon Age 3: Inquisition and the next Mass Effect game.
The new Frostbite 3 engine will debut with Battlefield 4 later this year
Frostbite 2 was developed for and first used in Battlefield 3, and it was subsequently used in several other EA titles, including Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, and Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel.
It isn’t a surprise then to see EA’s other studios jumping at the opportunity to put the power of Frostbite 3 behind their upcoming games.
Bioware Edmonton and Montreal general manager Aaryn Flynn tweeted, “For everyone who’s been asking after the BF4 reveal, DA3 and the next Mass Effect are also using Frostbite 3. It’s awesome”
Dragon Age 3: Inquisition is scheduled for release this year, while the next Mass Effect game is yet to be formally announced.
