Dirt Rally, the latest entry in Codemasters’ off-road racing series, is available now through Steam Early Access, with a console release nowhere in sight.
Past Dirt games have strayed from the Colin McRae Rally franchise’s rally roots to encompass all forms of off-road racing, but Dirt Rally signals a return to a singular focus on the rally discipline.
In its current (incomplete) state, Dirt Rally features 14 cars and 36 stages across three locations – Powys in Wales, Monte Carlo in Monaco, and Argolis in Greece. More content will be added over the coming months.
Codemasters has promised that once you pay the initial asking price of $35 (although currently available at a 10% discount), you won’t have to pay for future content, and that the game won’t include micro-transactions.
Fans have been clamouring for Codemasters to return to rally, and initial reactions to Dirt Rally from media outlets and from users on Steam seem overwhelmingly positive.
