Amazon India launches video games store; offers close to 5,000 products

After a soft-launch of its game consoles and accessories section in December, Amazon India has now officially launched its video games store, including games.

As of now, the games section on Amazon.in includes more than 2,600 games hardware and peripheral products, as well as over 2,000 games across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC platforms.

Amazon India currently operates only as a marketplace, which means it doesn’t sell products by itself, but instead through third parties like Croma, Planet M, Games The Shop, Intencity and Nextworld.

The e-commerce powerhouse also plans to hold pre-orders for games going forward, with the option of next-day deliver in certain cities at a cost of Rs 99.

“We are very happy to launch our much-awaited video games store with the largest selection in India.  This is an exciting time for the category with Sony’s PlayStation 4 making its debut in the market and Xbox One being eagerly awaited, said Samir Kumar, director of category management, Amazon India.

“With preorders for new releases, next-day guaranteed delivery to several cities on many of the current bestsellers, and Amazon’s trustworthy and convenient shopping experience, there hasn’t been a more exciting time for gamers in India,” says Kumar added.
