Nintendo 3DS set a new record today, with the company reporting the handheld’s sales to have crossed the 5 million mark within 52 weeks of release in Japan.
The milestone implies that 3DS now holds the record for moving 5 million console units in the shortest amount of time. The title was previously held by Nintendo DS, achieving the same in 56 weeks, closely followed by Game Boy Advance, selling as many in 58 weeks. Great feat following an uncharacteristically troublesome launch.
The data provided by Media Create also mentions that the number signifies the sales from retailers to customers. Nintendo also released a chart depicting sales trends of GBA, DS, Wii and 3DS.
