Aftrunner
Name: Anno 2070 Developer: Related Designs Release date: TBA Platforms: PC UBISOFT® SAILS INTO THE FUTURE WITH ANNO 2070TM Award-winning franchise offers the richest Anno Experience ever Montreal, Canada – April 4, 2011– Today, Ubisoft announced Anno 2070, the latest iteration of the award-winning real-time strategy and simulation franchise. Set to release in Winter 2011 for PCs, Anno 2070 moves the Anno franchise into a new era, taking players into a world inspired by today’s challenges and tomorrow’s technologies. Developed by Related Designs in collaboration with Blue Byte , Anno 2070 takes place in a near-future environment where climate change has forced humanity to adapt to rising sea levels that have left stretches of once-fertile land completely inhospitable. Players need to master new technologies while facing numerous ecological challenges to build their empires. Anno 2070 offers players the ability to be architects of the future and create the world of tomorrow. “Anno 2070 is a very ambitious game that will feel both familiar and fresh to fans of the series,” said Caroline Stevens, EMEA Brand Director at Ubisoft. “Due to the game’s futuristic setting, the development team wasn’t restricted by historical boundaries and was able to dream bigger than ever before. It’s a new take on a great franchise that both newcomers and longtime fans will love.”
Karooo
I haven't even played those 2 games(Venice?) properly, that I bought during the steam sale and probably never will.
Tyler
Dang! I just logged in to create a thread for this. I loved the hell out of 1404 and 1701. This future twist is rather interesting to say the least... @karooo... if you never play Anno 1404 then you're missing out on one of the best strategy games ever! It's one seriously addictive game once it gets you hooked.

Aftrunner
Yeah sort of. Its actually more like the Caesar series than Sims though.
MarketTantrik
Loved Anno 1404. The CE is one of the best packaged kits I own.

Tyler
@Nemo... it's part city-building part trade sim. You need to build and maintain a city and it's economy. There's a big emphasis on expansion trading as you will constantly need new and exotic goods to keep your population happy. That in gameplay terms translates to hours and hours of staring at your PC monitor and forgetting that a real world exists around you. Heck, the game itself tells you to take a break at regular intervals - "you've been playing for two hours, how about a coffee?" The only downside is the half-baked combat mechanics. But thankfully you can completely avoid combat in custom games - which is the game's biggest draw. The campaign is more like a tutorial.
Aftrunner
Is that an in-house engine? It looks gorgeous Even the last Anno game looked very VERY good. One of the screenshots has a dam in it. Wonder if we get to build one. Also pretty happy with the futuristic setting. It could work out great. Just no usual DRM bullshit on this Ubi. Tyler
Is that an in-house engine? It looks gorgeous Yes. It's the same engine used in 1404 - which looked very beautiful. I can say it looked better than these screens, mainly due to its setting.
devil_angel
Never heard of this series.....Heck I've played even broken medieval township building strategy games over the years. But I don't know how I missed this one.

Tyler
If you liked 1701, you really need to play 1404. It's a massive improvement over 1701 in every possible way!
Obil
I think those screenshots are from "Postcard view" mode as in 1404. Normal view might have reduced graphic detail. Spent countless hours on 1404 and I would say the addictiveness rating is similar to Civ games. Hours pass by as mins.

Ne0
I'm yet to play the previous game, hate to say this, but I can't play any strategy game which doesn't hold my hand and show me whats under the hood. Anno did not have good in-game tutorials. Bummer :/
Tyler
The campaign explains each and every game mechanic. It's basically a huge tutorial for the continuous mode.
