The GunStringer

"Where he came from no one knew…

though I once heard tell he was kicked out of Castolon, Texas, for teaching a mule to play poker, breaking one of the few laws in that frontier town at the time.

His goal was to get revenge on his old posse who had packed him with lead and left him with a permanent address under three feet of Texas clay...

then get dangerously drunk on apple jack whiskey.

He was a one-man judge, jury and executioner on the bloody vengeance trail".

He was...the Gunstringer. "

Quote from the Lead Designer of "The Gunstringer"

The Gunstringer is a Kinect game where you get to marionette a kick-a*s undead cowboy puppet through action packed stage performances. Everything is set as if it’s an actual play performance, complete with hand crafted “actors” and props. Through a bunch of on stage performances, you get to marionette the Gunstringer through an awesome western themed revenge story filled with action, drama, and mildly creepy puppet love. Having being raised from the dead by an invisible string-pulling force, the Gunstringer has only one goal – to seek revenge on the rag-tag posse that put him underground in the first place.

While we do take cues from the classics like Sergio Leone’s iconic spaghetti westerns, this isn’t a “straight” western revenge story. Being able to perform this story with puppets and stage props lets us get away with some pretty far out characters, settings, and plot twists that would just seem insane in a straight western story.

The Gunstringer marries all of this with really fresh and fun gameplay mechanics. From the start of this project, we’ve focused on getting across the feel of marionetting a puppet’s movement through a 3D world, then mixing that with the fun and mayhem of targeting-focused shooters like Rez. One minute you’ll be navigating the Gunstringer over tricky ravines or towards secret paths, the next you’ll be ducking behind cover to take out a half-dozen clockwork alligators with your six shooter.

As you may have already gathered, The Gunstringer is unlike any Kinect game you may have played previously. There are no minigames, forced gestures, or end of level photos of you in your underwear here. You can play it sitting down, which is great if you just want to play and relax rather than burn crazy calories. Most importantly, you can aim and move with precision not seen in any of the Kinect launch titles, and with a speed and feel that’s just not possible with a traditional controller.

John Marston, is that you?

Twisted Pixel :ack:

I'm surprised MS hasn't bought these guys out yet. They clearly don't seem interested in any other platform.

The 3D segments look a lot like Comic Jumper. Hopefully they'll play better.

I thot MS has alrdy bought them

Seriously guys? Promising kinect game?

The way the player (the guy who is showing the demo, not in game player) punches the Wrangler wingman is so lame. Its just like throwing girly punches/or some extremely boring punches like someone has put a gun to your head and said THROW THE DAMN PUNCHES, BUT NOT TOO FAST AS THE GAME WONT TRACK THAT, SO BE SLOW LIKE A MORON.

And the way the in game character clears out enemies when the player throws his right fist? How lame does that look?

The first promising kinect game will be Kingdom project by Crytek.

The Gunstringer to be Bundled With Fruit Ninja Kinect

Shooting and slashing its way into stores this September will be Twisted Pixel's retail debut The Gunstringer, which will now come with Fruit Ninja Kinect in the box, adding some extra value to the package with a bit of Halfbrick's fruit-slicing action, all priced at £29.99 in the UK.

Assuming control of the titular marionette, you'll platform jump and shoot your way through some fun and competitive Wild West action in The Gunstringer, grabbing collectibles, unlockable items, rewards and new abilities. As well as getting Fruit Ninja Kinect in the package, you'll also get as a special bonus, a free DLC add-on pack called 'The Wavy Tube Man Chronicles'.

In this add-on, you'll battle the time-travelling Wavy Tube Man's son (Wavy Tube Man Sr. pictured below), following on from the first boss battle in the game. Wavy Tube Man Jr. attempts to travel back in time to prevent his father's demise at the hands of The Gunstringer, meaning you'll fight cowboys and futuristic warriors as you take on Wavy Tube Man Jr. and prevent the world's end while you're at it.

The Gunstringer will be launching with a Fruit Ninja Kinect download token in the box on September 16th, which is also out on the Xbox Live Arcade from August 10th for 800 Microsoft Points. And if you pre-order The Gunstringer, you'll also get two tokens for a free XBL Avatar item

The Gunstringer Kinect Review

8.5/10

Thanks to expertly implemented controls and tons of goofy situations, The Gunstringer is a rollicking adventure in the Old West.

Aah so we do have a thread for it.

I actually didn't like it. I did not like the shooting mechanics at all. I was expecting it to get 3-4, 8.5 is like really really surprising.

And GG MS, it seems you are funding the indies to develop for Kinect, I mean if you don't then...these end up with a product which will prolly bomb and won't be portable on any other platforms.

Not every game could be Fruit Ninja, right? And there are more chances of them getting end up like Child of Eden.

Try it out on your 360 mate; it is fun to play . . and yes I am punching as hard as I want and the game does track that.

By far the best kinect game I have played PERIOD \m/
