You play as Garrett, master thief, and unwillingly pulled into a tripartite war between three factions who want to rule the eponymous City, a steampunk realization of Victorian cities. The three factions are the Keepers, the Hammerites and the Pagans.

Thief the Dark Project is a cult classic known for bringing stealth genre to the forefront. The protagonist is a cynical thief who fled the Keepers and only follows money. Thief is critically renowned for its gameplay, storyline, characters, music, and script and widely acclaimed as one of the best games of all times. There are two versions - the original Thief, and a Gold version which includes a few extra missions.

Thief is also known for its fanatic fanbase which creates fan made missions of the calibre to rival those created by the original developers.

Game: Thief II The Metal Age

Genre: First person stealth

Garrett is once again pulled into a war against the same guys with whom he teamed up last time. The gameplay retains the same high quality, but the levels are much much larger and more complex. The missions also have more variety as do enemies. LGS approached the game by making the levels first and then designing a story around them, leading to some fantastic levels. The dialogue is also much better, Garrett seems to be more cynical than before.

Game: Thief Deadly Shadows

Genre: First / Third person stealth

Developer: Ion Storm

Publisher: Eidos

Garrett resurfaces on the Xbox in addition to the PC this time around. And for the first time, Garrett's face is shown. Garrett's third battle is with the remaining sect in the city and brings the trilogy to an appropriate close. Levels are shorter but show more variance, and the City takes on new life. The game also features one of the most scary levels ever designed in video games.

Gameranking:

Thief Dark Project - 89.41%

Thief II The Metal Age - 89.14%

Thief Deadly Shadows - 84.26%

Still Thief 3 Deadly Shadows one of my favorite stealth games of all times. :majesty:

Those who want better graphics with high resolution texture for Thief 3 there is a awesome mod called John P.'s High Res Texture mod , changes almost every texture to three times the default resolution and also Garrett & the NPC's of the game :D

And here I was thinking Thief 4 got renamed to just 'Thief' (you know, like most crappy video game reboots).

BTW, I'm creating a Silent Hill 2 thread now :P

OP

Shabash mere cheete

Haters be damned.

It's the most involving, immersive, unpredictable and terrifying game I have ever played. The writing is beautiful, the attention to detail is absolutely insane. I always have a problem with my attention span, if I'm bored with a game for the first 15 minutes I'll probably never look back at it, the level design here invites plenty of mundane moments. Sitting in a dark corner noticing the patrol patterns of the guards, overhearing footsteps in other parts of the level - making a map in your head and calculating your next move.

The best part about the game is that you have to use stealth, it can never be substituted with any other skill. If you want to survive, stealth is the way ... any other approach is simply abortive. You will be thrown in an unknown place, a mansion or a haunted cathedral. The former populated with guards making sure you can never get your hands on a certain object cherished and protected by the person who owns it and the later abandoned by all former residents and now populated by supernatural beings who would love to break you in two if given a chance. You, as Garrett, are simply armed with an inconclusive map, which may often betray you.

The question is why are you invading a damned place just to get your hands on some loot. The obvious answer, which is made clear in the second game, is to make ends meet. But it is really not as simple as that. It's your (or rather Garrett's) desire to be the best at what he does. The creators have crafted a garden of Eden in the form of a level and you are invading it, trying to get to the forbidden apple ready to counter any resistance - not by force. This is where these games redefine immersiveness using the First Person view.

TL:DR - Thief is f**king awesome.

NOW we are talking - muahahaha.

For me the scariest moment still remains Return to the Haunted Cathedral after I get the eye. :samui:

It took me close to 2 hours to figure out how to get to that eye on top of the giant hammer. Once I landed there I thought escape would be easy but the level actually starts when you encounter the spirit of Brother Marus.

Crazy level.
