after alpha protocol's reviews, hard to get excited for something from obsidian ! But then, SE is also involved....so....fingers crossed !

That has a lot to do with the lack of High funding that Obsidian faces. Among other constraints.

Creatively, they're pretty brilliant.

Obsidian is a decent developer and AP is not a complete mess. And I can bet that Fallout: New Vegas will be better than FO3. Obsidian can definitely write better stories and dialog than Bethesda.

You don't need 'High funding' for decent direction and good dialogue.

Or good gameplay for that matter.

The Obsidian team has always had good dialogue and direction. They actually have a great creative team.

It's the execution that lets them down.

You aren't going to get the best in the business if you can't pay them enough.

Plus there are the publishers who want results.

The problem with Alpha Protocol is that what they aim to achieve isn't possible with the budget and time given.

The EG review makes that quite clear. Atleast these guys try, they try really hard.

See I am excited about this because it's Obsidian - they do sequels very well. It's the original IP that gives trouble.

Dungeon Siege theme music FTW - dun dun dunna dunna dun dun dunna dunna ad infinitum

That maybe because the publishers offer better funding for sequels? I'm just speculating here.

They haven't gone wrong with AP, there vision is there.

i'm tired of seeing people apologize for obsidian. it's always 'they were not given enough resources' or 'they were rushed to release the game' or something like that. it's been happening since kotor 2. and while i was inclined to believe it back then, when it becomes a pattern, it starts to become apparent that the fault lies with obsidian themselves. they were not rushed on alpha protocol... the game was delayed for at least a year if not more. and now the best thing anyone can say about the game is that it doesn't completely suck. having the best ideas in the world means exactly nothing without the execution to back it up. troika learned that the hard way. obsidian would have too, except they have new vegas coming out which will sell millions no matter how bad it is. don't get me wrong, i'm excited about new vegas... the chance to finally see the van buren design document translated into a game appeals to me, but i have no faith in obsidian's ability to create a good game anymore.

i see that i have already had my obsidian rant in this thread, so i'll just say that they have definitely been watching the diablo 3 videos. i bet they're hoping blizzard puts out enough videos so that they can copy everything without having to resort to their pool of original thinking, which is empty.

get ready for the pc system requirements.... http://store.steampo....com/app/39160/

System Requirements

    • OS: Windows Vista or 7 (64-bit OS preferred, but not required)
    • Processor: Modern CPU (Core i7, etc.)
    • Memory: - 4GB of RAM minimum, 6GB or more if available
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 280 or ATI Radeon 5800 series or better
    • DirectX®: DirectX® 9.0c
    • Sound: standard audio

bear in mind this is also coming to the consoles, so why in god's name does this have system requirements higher than any other game in history?
