Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has addressed the growing importance of the PC market, stopping short of confirming whether Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on PC.
Currently, GTA 6 is set for release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no PC version announced. Speaking to IGN, Zelnick hinted at a potential PC release but noted that Take-Two does not always launch games across all platforms at the same time.
“So with Civilization 7 it’s available on console and PC and Switch right away,” Zelnick said. “With regard to others in our lineup, we don’t always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms.”
Zelnick also acknowledged the increasing significance of PC gaming, stating that a PC version of a multiplatform game can account for up to 40 per cent of overall sales. “We have seen PC become a much more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue,” he added.
Despite this, the primary focus remains on console releases, with Zelnick predicting that GTA 6 will drive console sales. “When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles,” he said. “And I think that will happen this year.”
Take-Two and Rockstar have a history of staggered releases, as seen with GTA 5, which launched on consoles in 2013 before arriving on PC in 2015. So while a PC release for GTA 6 is inevitable, it is unclear if it will release simultaneously on console and PC.
