After several leaks, Nintendo has officially pulled back the curtain on the Switch 2, and it’s launching later this year. While Nintendo didn’t announce an exact release date, the reveal trailer gives a solid first look at what’s new, and what remains the same.
The trailer starts with the original Switch before showing off the new Switch 2’s redesigned features. The first big change – the screen is larger. The Joy-Cons are also getting a makeover, growing in size and featuring a matte black finish. The controllers will also come in new colour options—light blue and red—with covers that seem to attach magnetically when detached from the main unit.
Another noticeable upgrade is the improved kickstand. This time, it’s U-shaped and extends farther back, allowing the console to sit almost flat on a surface. If you’ve been following leaks and mock-ups, you’ll recognize some of these design tweaks, but now they’re officially confirmed.
But perhaps the best news – Switch 2 is backward compatible, meaning you won’t have to say goodbye to your existing Switch library. Your favourite games will carry over to the new console.
This is just a teaser thought; Nintendo has promised more updates during their upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2.
Nintendo Switch 2 India release
India availability for any Nintendo product remains a big question mark. While company executives have visited India in the recent past and continue to assess the market, there’s little to suggest at the moment that Switch 2 is likely to release in India.
India is not an officially supported market by Nintendo, and so any Nintendo consoles or first-party games sold in India are being brought in by local importers. This trend will no likely continue with Switch 2, so even if Nintendo decides to give India a miss, a retailer near you should have you covered.
