Ninja Gaiden 4 announced, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black out today

New game being co-developed by Team Ninja and PlatinumGames

Ninja Gaiden 4 has been officially announced during the Xbox Developer Direct, marking the first new entry in the series in 13 years. Developed by Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, the game is set to release later this year on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.

As a lead-up to the new release, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, the definitive version of the 2008 Xbox 360 game, has been shadow dropped and is now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, including on Xbox Game Pass.

Ninja Gaiden 4 follows the events of Ninja Gaiden 3 but introduces a new protagonist, Yakumo, along with a cyberpunk-inspired Tokyo setting. However, longtime fans will still see the return of Ryu Hayabusa, who will play a significant role in the story and will be playable at certain points.

Team Ninja head Fumihiko Yasuda explained that the project is a collaboration between Koei Tecmo and PlatinumGames, facilitated by a close working relationship between their respective leadership teams. Microsoft has also supported the development.

The release of Ninja Gaiden 4 coincides with Team Ninja’s 30th anniversary in 2025, which the studio has dubbed “The Year of the Ninja.”
