Assassin’s Creed Shadows delayed again, now launching March 20

Ubisoft promises engaging launch experiences, escapes busy February

Ubisoft has announced another delay for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with its release now set for March 20, a month later than the previously targeted date.

The publisher explained the decision in an official statement, citing a commitment to enhancing gameplay quality and delivering an engaging launch experience. “This additional time will allow the team to better incorporate the player feedback gathered over the past three months and help create the best conditions for launch by continuing to engage closely with the increasingly positive Assassin’s Creed community,” Ubisoft said.

Originally scheduled for release in November 2024, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has faced multiple delays. The initial postponement to February 14 came in the wake of Star Wars Outlaws underperforming commercially, which highlighted the need for Ubisoft to address potential issues before Shadows’ debut. The further delay to March provides extra time to refine the game further, amidst mounting pressure for a hit release.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot expressed confidence in the decision, emphasizing the importance of player feedback. “We are all behind our teams’ efforts to create the most ambitious Assassin’s Creed opus of the franchise. This extra month will enable us to fully deliver on the potential of the game and finish the year on a strong note.”

The move also strategically positions Assassin’s Creed Shadows outside a crowded February 2025 release window, which includes Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Civilization 7, Avowed, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and Monster Hunter Wilds.

This delay comes at a challenging time for Ubisoft. The company has faced several setbacks, including low sales for Outlaws and the recent shutdown of free-to-play competitive shooter XDefiant.
