Last year at E3, Insomniac Games revealed that it was working on a new Ratchet & Clank game for the PS4, and it’s now been confirmed that it’s a series reboot.

Ratchet & Clank’s PS4 debut is scheduled for spring 2016, around the April release of the Ratchet & Clank animated film, and the game’s first trailer shows glimpses of both.

The new game is a “re-imagining” of 2002’s first Ratchet & Clank game, blending the “spirit of the classic PS2 titles” with the “best elements from the Ratchet & Clank Future games” on PS3.

“We started out thinking of Ratchet & Clank (PS4) as a “re-imagining” of the 2002 original, revised to tie in with the deeper version of Ratchet’s origin story as seen in the film. We envisioned a curated Ratchet & Clank experience that borrowed from the spirit of the classic PS2 titles while infusing some of the best elements from the Ratchet & Clank Future games,” Insomniac’s community lead James Stevenson said in a post on the PlayStation Blog.

“In the PS4 version of Ratchet & Clank, the majority of the arsenal are weapons that weren’t in the original game. That means both new weapons and fan-favourite tools of destruction from the Ratchet & Clank Future series will fill out Ratchet’s kit,” Stevenson added.

Those who preorder the game will get exclusive access to The Bouncer weapon from Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked & Loaded, which launches a bomb that releases a plethora of tiny homing bombs that bounce towards targets.

The game will be playable at E3 next week and may even get some stage time at Sony’s press conference (get all the details here). In the mean time, check out Ratchet & Clank on PS4.
