We’ve just got word that all three of Activision’s releases in the music genre for 2009 – Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero and DJ Hero – will release in India. Worldwide CD ROMs, the official distributor for Activision in India, has confirmed that the games will come here as close to worldwide release as possible, provided our customs officers don’t take a special liking to the big colourful boxes.

For those wondering about the difference between Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero, Guitar Hero 5 will feature a predominantly rock soundtrack and will come bundled with only a guitar peripheral, similar to GH3 and those before it. Band Hero, on the other hand, will come with the drum, guitar and mic peripherals like in Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour, and the soundtrack will be mostly Top 40s pop music.
DJ Hero is Activision’s new IP in the music genre. It comes bundled with a wireless turntable peripheral and the soundtrack is a mix of techno, house, pop, and hip-hop. The 100 songs that make up the soundtrack are mashed together into 94 mixes by renowned international DJs as well as the developer’s in-house talents.

If you intend to buy either of these games, know that they won’t come cheap. To give you a rough idea, Guitar Hero 3 released in India at a price of Rs 5,299, and the Dollar rate has shot up since. The moment the prices are finalised, we’ll let you know. Until then, start saving.
